CSA Men's Championship - Final Bracket

WALLINGFORD, CONN. – Penn men’s squash (5-12, 2-6 Ivy) dropped its final match of the season on Sunday afternoon. The Quakers fell, 5-4, in a very tight Hoehn Cup consolation final to No. 15 Bates (15-10, 7-3 NESCAC). The Red and Blue and Cougars have split the season series, 1-1, and Penn now leads the all-time series, 5-1.

The match was an extremely close one in which three of Penn’s five losses came in the full five games. At the third position, Liam Quinn (6-11, 2-6) fell to Walter Cabot despite coming back from being down 2-0 to force a fifth game. Another freshman, Augie Frank (4-13, 2-6) dropped his match at No. 4 to R.J. Keating in five, and has now spilt the season series against Keating, 1-1 – Frank won the match in Penn’s season-opener in four games. Michael Mutscheller (2-12, 0-4) was the other Quaker to be defeated in five games, falling to Andy Cannon at the fifth position.

Three of the Red and Blue’s four victories came in the bottom three positions on the ladder, and at No. 2 from Derek Chilvers (5-13, 2-6). The junior finished the season strong, winning his last two matches, this one over Kristian Muldoon in straight games, 3-0. Tyler Odell (11-6, 5-3) finished his outstanding freshman campaign with back-to-back victories as well, topping Filip Michalsky at the seventh position in four games. After getting a late start to the season, Justin Ang (6-4, 4-2) finished his junior year with two consecutive wins, defeating Caran Arora in the full five games at No. 8. At the ninth position Daniel Judd (11-6, 5-3) matched Odell for the most wins on the Quakers’ roster this season, defeating David Born in straight games.

Several Quakers will be back in action for the final time next weekend when they travel to Hartford, Conn. for the CSA Individual championships. Daily updates will be available on PennAthletics.com.
