PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Third-ranked Penn (8-2, 2-2 Ivy) emerged victorious from its Saturday doubleheader in Providence, R.I. The Red and Blue bested host No. 9 Brown (10-2, 1-2), 8-1, in the early match. They followed that up with a 7-2 win over seventh-ranked Stanford (7-4) in the afternoon. The Quakers bounced back in a big way after their tough loss to No. 1 Princeton (8-0, 4-0) on Jan. 30.

The match against the Bears began at 11 a.m., and the 8-1 decision gave Penn its second Ivy League win of the season, evening its conference record at two. The Quakers afternoon win over the Cardinal was their eighth all-time in the series, and have yet to lose a match to Stanford.

Tri-captain Nabilla Ariffin (4-4, 1-2) held the first position for both matches, earning her first Ivy victory of the season against Brown in straight games, but fell in four games to Pamela Chua of Stanford. Freshman Yan Xin (6-3, 2-2) evened her Ivy record on the season, adding a three-game win against the Bears at No. 2. But, Xin also joined Ariffin in the afternoon match as the only other Quaker to be defeated. Pia Trikha (6-1, 2-1) played in the third position in the morning and No. 5 in the afternoon, winning each match in three games.

Two Quakers split time at the fourth position, with Yarden Odinak (3-4, 1-3) falling to Brown in three games, and Haidi lala (7-1, 2-1) winning her match against Stanford in straight games. Chloe Blacker (9-1, 3-1) went 2-0 on the day, winning at No. 5 against the Bears and No. 7 against the Cardinal, both in three games. Another freshman, Ailsa Agnew (8-2, 2-2) saw action at the sixth and eighth positions during the day, winning both matches, 3-1.

Another senior tri-captain, Stephanie Vogel (7-0, 2-0), won her match at No. 7 in straight games against Brown, and won her Stanford match at the ninth position, 3-1. Carey Celata (6-0, 2-0) won her match against the Bears at No. 8, 3-1, and the exhibition match against Stanford, 3-0. Colleen Fehm (5-0, 1-0) saw her first Ivy action of the season, winning in straight games at No. 9 against Brown. Senior Rachael Goh (5-3, 1-2) won in straight games at the third position against the Cardinal, and Leslie Gill (4-0, 1-0) took the exhibition match against Brown.

Penn will be back in action Sunday at noon in New Haven, Conn. against No. 5 Yale. The Bulldogs lost their first Ivy match of the season on Saturday, falling to top-ranked Princeton in a close one, 5-4.
