Squash Travels North Friday to Face Williams

PHILADELPHIA – Penn squash heads north to Williamstown, Mass. for a match against Williams on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at the Simon Squash Center. The Quakers enter the weekend fresh off strong wins at Drexel, while the Ephs have not played since Nov. 17.

The fifth-ranked women’s team swept Drexel on Wednesday, 9-0, and are now 3-0 on the season. The Quakers have yet to lose a set this year, with their first two wins coming against Bates and George Washington, both 9-0, in Washington, D.C.

They will face a No. 10 Williams team that may be a bit rusty, having not played since their upstate New York road trip, Nov. 16-17. That was the Ephs’ (1-2) only weekend of action to this point, defeating Hamilton, 9-0, in Clinton on the 16th, and falling to Stanford, 8-1, and Cornell, 9-0, in Ithaca on the 17th.

The last time these two teams met was on Dec. 10 of last season when the Quakers hosted Williams at the Ringe Courts. Penn defeated the Ephs, 9-0, and now lead the all-time series, 21-9.

The No. 14 Penn men come off a hard-fought 6-3 win against Drexel. The Quakers are now 2-1 on the year after splitting in Washington, D.C., defeating Bates, 5-4, but falling to George Washington by the same score.

The Red and Blue will match up with No. 12 Williams. The Ephs (1-2) most recently fell to Western Ontario, 7-2, and Cornell, 8-1, in Ithaca, N.Y. on Nov. 17 after winning their season-opener on Nov. 16 against Hamilton, 8-1, in Clinton, N.Y.

The two teams met last season on Dec. 10 at the Ringe Courts. Penn defeated Williams, 6-3, and leads the all-time series, 29-9.
