Women’s Squash Sends Nine to CSA Individual Championships
HARTFORD, CONN. – Penn’s women’s squash team sent nine women to the CSA Individual Championships this weekend in Hartford, Conn. Five Quakers competed in the Ramsay Division and the other four in the Holleran Division.
Rachael Goh met Jamie Laird of Cornell for the third time this season and the senior bested Laird for the second time, this one in five games. Goh moved on to the Round of 16 after the victory to face the top-seeded Amanda Sobhy of Harvard. Sobhy got the best of Goh in straight games. The Penn senior will meet her teammate Nabilla Ariffin in the second round consolation quarterfinals tomorrow at 12:15 p.m.
As for Ariffin, the Penn tri-captain met Corey Schafer of Dartmouth in the Round of 32 earlier today and winning in straight games. She moved on to the Round of 16 where she met Danielle Letourneau of Cornell for the third time this season. The Red and Blue senior fell to Letourneau for the second time, dropping her match in straight games.
Yan Xin is the only Quaker still alive after the first two rounds of competition. The freshman met Natasha Kingshott of Harvard in the first round, winning in four games. She then met Catalina Pelaez of Trinity for the second time this season in the Round of 32, defeating her again, this time in five games. Xin will meet Julie Cerullo of Princeton in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
Another freshman, Haidi Lala, met Haley Mendez of Harvard in the first round, but fell in four games. Lala then met Anna Porras of George Washington in round one of the first round consolation bracket, but fell to the Colonial in straight games.
Pia Trikha matched up with Lizzy Eyre of Princeton in the Round of 32, falling to the Tiger in straight games. Trikha then met Nesserine Ariffin in the first round of the consolation bracket, defeating the top Bates player in four games. She will meet Nicole Bunyan of Princeton tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. in the first round consolation quarterfinals.
Courtney Jones earned a bye in the Round of 64 and then faced Randima Ranaweera of Mount Holyoke in the next round, winning in straight games. Jones will meet Alexandra Sawin of Princeton tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the Round of 16.
Chloe Blacker also had a first-round bye, but fell to Reyna Pacheco of Columbia in four games in the following round. Blacker will meet Jacqueline Shea of George Washington in the first round of the second round consolation bracket at 9:40 a.m. tomorrow morning.
Camille Lanier joins Jones in the Round of 16 after her Friday match. The freshman also had a first-round bye, and defeated Chanel Erasmus of Trinity in straight games in the following round. Lanier will face Madeleine Gill of Stanford in the quarterfinals at 11:45 a.m. tomorrow.
Finally, tri-captain Stephanie Vogel defeated Molly Parsons of Colby in the Round of 64 in straight games but fell to Jennifer Pelletier of Trinity in four games the next round. Vogel will meet Katiria Sanchez of Trinity at 10:20 a.m. tomorrow in the opening round of the second round consolation bracket.
