PHILADELPHIA – The third-ranked University of Pennsylvania women’s squash team travels to Princeton, N.J. this weekend, poised to make a run at its second College Squash Association team championship in the Howe Cup.

Penn (10-2, 6-1 Ivy) has defeated five of its fellow seven competitors dropping its only two matches to the two teams ranked ahead of it, Harvard (12-0, 7-0 Ivy) and Trinity, Conn. (13-1).

The Quakers will begin Howe Cup play on Friday at 2:30 p.m. against No. 6 Cornell. Penn defeated the Big Red two weeks ago in Ithaca, 6-3. If the Quakers win, they will play in the semifinals on Saturday at 2 p.m., facing either No. 7 Stanford (6-6) or No. 2 Trinity. The championships finals are Sunday at 1 p.m.

Penn has seen great play throughout its lineup during the entire season led by senior co-captains Courtney Jones and Chloe Blacker. Jones has played in the third and fourth position throughout the season, posting an overall 10-2 record.

Blacker did not play due to injury in the first three matches, but returned to play as high as the sixth position, but has anchored the Quakers ladder generally in the eighth or ninth position. The senior ran off an impressive streak in her return winning all nine of her individual matches.

The Quakers are young at the top of their ladder, led by freshman Anaka Alankamony (5-3) and sophomore Yan Xin Tan (8-4). Sophomore Haidi Lala and freshman Michelle Wong and sophomore Carey Celata have also won crucial matches in the ladder during the course of the regular season.

Other players contributing to Penn’s 10 wins and will be important to the Quakers Howe Cup aspirations are Camille Lanier, Ailsa Agnew, Leslie Gill, and Colleen Fehm.
