Men's Fencing Starts Season at Penn State Open

STATE COLLEGE, PA. - Penn men's fencing got its season off to a solid start on Sunday at the Penn State Open.

Led by a second place finish from Evan Prochniak, a total of five Quakers finished in the top 16 of their respective weapon. For the second straight season, Prochniak finished behind only Penn State's Alek Ochocki in the saber competition. Jason Chang was next highest finisher for Penn, taking seventh overall in foil while teammate Zane Grodman was 14th. In epee, Rene Gannon-O'Gara and Stephen Jow came in 13th and 16th, respectively.

The team will have a two-month layoff in competition before the season picks up next. Penn hosts the Philadelphia Invitational at Hutchinson Gym on January 22, an event that the team went 6-0 in a season ago.
