PHILADELPHIA - The Penn women's fencing team opened its season with three top-ten performances in its annual trip over to the Temple Open this weekend.

In a field which featured many of the nation's top teams, the Quakers managed three top-ten finishes, highlighted by senior Diana Ark. Ark was Penn's top finisher, going 9-1 in the preliminary rounds and taking seventh out of 76 participants in epee.

In foil, Junior captain Laura Paragano placed eighth after finishing with a 7-1 record in the preliminary rounds. Freshman Wendy Zhao went unbeaten in the preliminary rounds and finished one spot behind her captain in ninth. Fellow classmate Juliana Kulik also fenced foil and placed 40th in the event.

The Quakers return to the strips next weekend when they travel to the Penn State Open.
