Columbus, Ohio - The Quakers got some excellent performances from a pair of fencers to keep hold of Penn's position in seventh place at the NCAA Championships following the first day of women's fencing at Ohio State.
Sophomore Amrit Bhinder and junior Dominika Franciszkowicz were the top two fencers for the Red and Blue. Despite being newcomer to the Championships Bhinder showed a great deal of poise, fencing her way to nine victories in epee on the first day. Her 9-5 record and +9 differential in touches puts her in fifth overall, just two victories out of the top-four. Franciszkowicz is in 11th in sabre after the first day, with eight victories and a +5 total in touches.
Penn's other fencers, senior Danielle Kamis and freshman Gabby Foor also competed well. Kamis had five victories on the first day and Foor earned a pair of wins in her first trip to the NCAA Championships.
The Quakers return to the strips on Sunday for the final day of fencing. Live updates of the results came be found here all day long.
