PHILADELPHIA - The #10 women's fencing team travels to Columbus, Ohio this week and will take part in the NCAA Championships beginning on Thursday held jointly at Ohio State's French Field House and St. John Arena.

The Quakers qualified four members of the squad to compete in Columbus, led by a pair of upperclassmen with past NCAA experience in senior Dominika Franciszkowicz and junior Amrit Bhinder. Franciszkowicz is a two-time Honorable Mention All-America in sabre while Bhinder made her first appearance at last year's event and finished as a Second Team All-America in epee. Two freshmen, Luona Wang and Sarah Parmacek, will compete for Penn in foil.

Purely from a records standpoint, the Quakers will be well-represented by these four. Franciszkowicz finished 31-12 on the year in sabre, far and away the best mark on the squad. Bhinder's 31 wins in epee were second on the team in that particular weapon behind Gabby Foor, but Bhinder had a winning percentage of over .750. In foil, the freshmen duo of Wang and Parmacek has been dominant all season, spurring the foil squad to a record of 19-2. Wang leads all Quaker fencers with 41 wins while Parmacek is second with 33 in her first collegiate season.

With 24 qualifiers in each weapon, every member of the team will compete in a total of 23 five-touch bouts, with the top four overall records advancing into the semifinals. At that point, the top-four fence 15-touch bouts, with the winners advancing to determine first and second places, and the losers being awarded a tie for third place. Absolute ties for the seeding will be broken as follows: for positions one through three, by a coin toss; for position four, by a fence-off.

Both the women's championship rounds (Friday) and the men's championship rounds (Sunday) will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
