Cambridge, Mass. - The No. 10 women's fencing team showed its strength on Sunday with a 4-0 mark at the Eric Sollee Invitational. The Quakers defeated Stevens Tech, MIT, Boston College and Brandeis on the day.

The foil team saved Penn in the first bouts of the day. Things were tight between the epee and saber squads against Stevens Tech, but an 8-1 advantage for foil proved vital as the Red and Blue started off with an 18-9 victory. Rachel Chin and Wendy Zhao each went 3-0 against the Ducks. It was almost an identical situation facing MIT. With epee and saber drawing at 9-9, a 9-0 edge from foil was the difference as the Quakers downed the Engineers, 18-9. Chin was once again 3-0 for Penn.

Foil continued to provide everything Penn needed as the Quakers started the afternoon. Zhao, Sarah Parmacek and Luong Wang all compiled 3-0 records against Boston College to help down the Eagles, 19-8. Penn registered its biggest win of the day in the final bout, a 20-7 decision over Brandeis. Wang again went 3-0 for the Red and Blue, while epee was 7-2 with Srey Beaulac and Amrit Bhinder recording perfect 3-0 records against the Judges.

The Quakers are in action again next weekend, traveling back to Cambridge to compete in the Ivy League Round-Robins on the campus of Harvard University. The two-day event will get started on Feb. 9 and end on Feb. 10 from the Albert H. Gordon Track.
