PHILADELPHIA - Penn's Field Hockey team was recently designated as one of 57 teams nationwide to have earned the 2010 Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Team Award. To earn this distinction, a team must have a cumulative team G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2010-11 academic year.
Individually, six members of the team were also named to the NFHCA Academic Squad. To be eligible for this distinction, players must have earned at least a 3.30 G.P.A. during the same time frame designated for the team award.
Abigail Egan and Erin Healy were the two juniors to earn this award, while Mandy Epstein was the only sophomore to receive the honor. Three freshmen were included on the academic squad as Christina Benvenuti, Amelia Cohen, and Sarah Middough all maintained a 3.30 G.P.A. during the fall.
