Speaking of rare, Penn will be facing a Rams squad they have not seen since 2003, although prior to that WCU was a regular fixture on Penn's schedule as a local rival. The Quakers will hope to shake out of their offensive doldrums this week; after being shut out in four straight games, they finally broke their streak with a goal in the first half Saturday at Dartmouth.
The Series with West Chester: The Quakers have a losing record to the Rams overall, at 14-16-3, but this is the first meeting between these two teams since 2003 when Penn defeated WCU, 2-0. The year before that, Penn downed West Chester at Franklin Field, 5-0. The Rams' last win in this series came in 2001, a 1-0 decision in West Chester.
About West Chester: West Chester is a Division II athletic program, but plays field hockey at the Division I level. The Rams (3-6) have not played since Sept. 26, a 2-1 loss to Rutgers. They have also played traditional powers North Carolina and Penn State this year, and earlier took Columbia to double overtime before losing the Lions, 3-2. Kate Zunski has four goals, while Alisha Moran and Nicole Fiorilla have three each. In goal, the Rams split Kristen Arnold (3.00 goals-against average in 350 minutes) and Gabby Panasiewicz (2.07 GAA in 305 minutes)
*Penn scored its first goal in five games last weekend at Dartmouth, with Kirstin Snyder ending the Quakers' lengthy goalless drought.
*Hasson and McGarvie also have assists this season, as does Anne Matthews.
