PHILADELPHIA – The Penn field hockey team was recently recognized as one of 70 Division I programs to have earned the 2012 National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Team Award. To earn this distinction, a team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher during the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year.
Additionally, Penn had six individuals named to the Division I NFHCA Academic Squad. To be nominated for this award, players must have earned at least a 3.30 GPA during the first semester of the 2012-13 academic year.
Alex Agathis earned this award after just her first semester as a Penn student-athlete. Senior Kyle deSandes-Moyer was honored for the second consecutive season to finish out here career as a Quaker while fellow senior Mandy Epstein becomes just the fourth player in program history to earn the award in each of her four years at Penn. Elizabeth Hitti joins fellow freshman Agathis in earning the honor after just her first semester in the Red and Blue. Sophomore Alex Iqbal earned the award for the second consecutive year while fellow sophomore Carly Sokach was honored for the first time in her career.
