Tom Paradiso
Position: Assistant Coach
Alma Mater: Penn
Graduating Year: 2002
Olympian Tom Paradiso C'02 returned to Penn in 2009-10, to join the staff of Nicholas B. Paumgarten Head Coach of Men's Heavyweight Rowing Greg Myhr as an assistant coach. The 2010-11 season will mark his second year working with the Penn Freshman crews.

In his first season with the Quakers, few crews were better for the Red and Blue than the freshmen. The first freshman won three races on the year and went undefeated on the Schuylkill River. On their home course, in the first race of the spring season, the novice crew claimed victory over George Washington and then on Senior Day a few weeks later, they defeated both Columbia and Yale. The crew also beat Northeastern in Boston and went on to finish 14th in the nation at the IRA's.

A native of the Philadelphia area, Paradiso is an eight-year veteran on the U.S. national team. Most recently, his lightweight 8+ won gold at the World Championship in Austria. In total, he has earned four World Championship medals. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Paradiso sat in the stroke seat of the lightweight men's 4- where the U.S. finished 11th.

Prior to joining the Quakers' staff, Paradiso coached high school rowers at Mercer Junior Rowing Club in West Windsor, N.J. In 2005, Tom coached the varsity girls' lightweight 8+ to MJRC's first-ever women's team appearance and silver medal at the USRowing Youth National Championships.

While rowing for Penn, Paradiso was the recipient of the 2002 Dreyfuss Award for character. With the Quakers, he rowed with the first varsity junior and senior year. The summer following his sophomore year, Paradiso won a club national championship in the intermediate single.  He made his first US National Team while still at Penn, winning a bronze medal at the 2001 World Championships in Lucerne, Switzerland after his junior year.

Paradiso started rowing at Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia in 1995, where he was the team captain and National Champion in the first USRowing Youth Invitational in the Junior Men's 4x in 1998.

In addition to coaching, Paradiso has worked in marketing at JAGTAG and Noize Pollution Music Marketing.
