PRINCETON, N.J. - The heavyweight rowing team was defeated by No. 4 Princeton on Saturday in the Childs Cup, losing control of the all-time series as the Tigers broke a deadlock in wins between the two storied rivals in college rowing's oldest Cup race.

In the varsity eight, Penn took second to defending champion Princeton, finishing 13.3 seconds behind the Tigers who crossed first in 6:27.3 to Penn's 6:40.6. While Penn was unable to gain the line in first position, the varsity crew did hang on to second place, outstroking Columbia which took third in 6:42.5.

The final race of the day saw a Red and Blue win, with the Quakers winning the second freshman/third varsity combination race in a time of 6:57.0 over the Bud Smith Memorial Race Course on Lake Carnegie. The Quakers were 3.8 seconds ahead of Princeton's heavyweight boat which finished in 7:00.8 and well ahead of Princeton's third varsity lightweight boat which was third in 7:23.2.

In the second varsity, Penn was third to Princeton's 2V by 9.6 seconds, finishing in 6:50.1. In the frosh eights, the order was similar to the varsity, with Penn (6:35.5) second to Princeton (6:23.6) but showing the ability to close out a closely-trailing competitor in Columbia which was third (6:37.8)
