Heavyweight Rowing Begins 2011 at McCausland Cup

PHILADELPHIA - Saturday brings the start of the men's heavyweight rowing season for Penn and the Quakers will launch the 2011 campaign in Washington, D.C. against George Washington with the McCausland Cup on the line.

Entering his second season at the helm of the heavyweights, Greg Myhr will bring four boats to the nation's capital to take on his previous school. The Quakers and Colonials will compete on the Potomac River, one of the East Coast's premier rowing venues.

Race Schedule for the McCausland Cup:
10:10 a.m. - Freshman Eights
10:30 a.m. - 2nd Freshman Eights
10:50 a.m. - Varsity Eights
11:10 a.m. - 2nd and 3rd Varsity Eights

Last year, the 2000m race took place on the Schuylkill River with George Washington winning the varsity 8 in a time of 5:39.1, just ahead of Penn's 5:41.5 in the first race of the season for the Red and Blue. The Quakers did win the 2nd Varsity 8 by 3.2 seconds over the Colonials, posting a winning effort of 5:44.2. In the freshman 8, Penn again was victorious, this time by eight seconds in a winning row of 5:50.0. George Washington won the freshman four race.

Later in the spring, the Quakers rebounded for a several-seat win over G.W. at the Eastern Sprints in a time of 5:46.6 to George Washington's 5:48.8.
