PHILADELPHIA - The Schuylkill River will be busy on Saturday for Penn's heavyweight rowing team with a pair of cup races on the schedule. Up first is the Adams Cup against Harvard and Navy in the morning followed by the Burk Cup with Northeastern in the afternoon.
Saturday's Adams Cup will be the 79th edition of the race, with Penn looking to claim its 17th win in the series. Harvard holds the all-time lead in the Adams Cup with 48 wins and Navy has 14 championships. The Crimson have claimed 10 in a row, including a win by 1.9 seconds over Navy on the Charles River in 2010. The Quakers are the last team to win the Adams Cup besides Harvard, winning in 1999 on the Schuylkill.
The Burk Cup is a younger Cup race compared to most of Penn's long-contested Cup events. Started in 1970, the Quakers and Huskies have raced 41 times with Northeastern leading 23-18. The last nine editions have gone to Northeastern, including a 1.9-second win on the Charles in 2010.
