PHILADELPHIA -
The busy Penn heavyweight rowing team is back on the water Saturday, heading to New Jersey for the 81st installment of the Blackwell Cup with Yale and Columbia. The Lions are the host school this year, with the regatta to take place at Overpeck Park in Leonia, N.J.

The three crews set to compete on Saturday are within eight spots of each other in the most recent USRowing Collegiate Poll, led by defending champion Yale which enters at No. 8. The Quakers are No. 14 in the poll while host Columbia glides in at No. 16.

Last weekend, the Red and Blue took second in the Childs Cup to No. 4 Princeton, securing second position in a tight race to the wire with Columbia. Penn was 1.9 seconds ahead of the Lions last weekend on Lake Carnegie, and has ideas on widening that gap and knocking off the Bulldogs as well.

In 2011, the Elis won the Blackwell Cup for the second year in a row with a 13-second win over Penn, which outdistanced Columbia by just over 11 seconds for second. Overall in the Blackwell Cup series, Penn has 34 victories, second to Yale's 41. Columbia is third with five wins, two of which came in 2008 and 2009. A Penn win on Saturday would be the Quakers' first in the Blackwell Cup since 2002.
