ITHACA, N.Y. - Looking to add one more Cup race win to its resume heading to IRAs next weekend, No. 14 Penn did itself no favors early on in the varsity eight against No. 13 Cornell on Lake Cayuga Friday, falling behind by open water in the first 1000m. At the midway point, the Quakers began a rally, finishing strong and closing within two-thirds of a length but it was not enough to surpass the Big Red and reclaim the Madeira Cup.

Cornell's time of 5:37.3 was 2.6 seconds ahead of Penn's 5:39.9 to win the varsity eight, one of five wins for the Big Red on the day.

The Quakers have one more regatta on tap before heading to Camden, N.J. for the 2012 IRA Championships, hosting No. 6 Wisconsin on Saturday on the Schuylkill River. The schedule for Saturday is as follows:
