PHILADELPHIA – No. 9 Penn is back on home water this weekend, hosting the 103rd Childs Cup against No.4 Princeton and No. 14 Columbia on the Schuylkill River on Saturday. Racing begins at 10 a.m. with the Fifth Varsity, continuing on to the Childs Cup race with the Varsity Eights at 11:20 a.m.

The Tigers have the all-time lead in the Childs Cup with 46 wins in the race. Penn is right behind with 45 victories. First contested in 1879 on the Schuylkill, the regatta is in its 135th year. The Red and Blue will be looking for their first win since 1993. Last year, Penn was third to Princeton in a race which saw Penn’s lane disrupted by a wayward crew warming up for a later high school race. The Quakers and Lions had been in a tight battle for second through 800m before Penn had to veer off-course to dodge the misplaced boat and the Red and Blue could not rally.

Penn’s crew is entering with momentum from a sweep of three races last weekend, including a win over then-No. 2 Northeastern to claim the Burk Cup.

Princeton has won both of its races to start the spring, claiming a win over Georgetown and Syracuse the last weekend of March before nudging Navy by 1.4 seconds last weekend. Columbia is also 2-0 this spring, with wins over Rutgers and Dartmouth.
