World Championships

PHILADELPHIA – U.S. Rowing announced on Monday its 2009 Under 23 National team where former Quaker Neil McPeak W'09, was named to the Men’s Eight crew. McPeak is a part of 21 crews that will represent the United States at the 2009 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Racice, Czech Republic, July 23-26.

McPeak was a three-year letterwinner at Penn as he served as part of the Varsity 8 in each of his final three seasons in the Red and Blue. As a freshman, the six-foot-seven, Linwood, N.J., native helped the Quakers claim the Kenneth F. Burns Memorial Trophy as the top freshman heavyweight eight boat at EARC Sprints. The 2006 title was the first for Penn in nine years. In 2007, McPeak was a part of the first Penn team to claim the Madeira Cup from Cornell in six seasons.

McPeak was one of just 32 student-athletes in the country to be invited to the U.S. U-23 national team camp in June before earning an official spot on the national team. Athletes selected to the the M8+, M4-, and M4x are in Princeton, N.J., to train alongside the senior team for final preparation for the U23 World Championships. The team will leave for world championships around July 18.

McPeak is a 2009 Wharton graduate at the University of Pennsylvania.

USRowing is a nonprofit organization recognized by the United States Olympic Committee as the governing body for the sport of rowing in the United States.
