Boca Raton, Fla. - The Penn men's swimming team rang in the new year with easy victories on Wednesday over Florida Atlantic and Brown in a tri-meet held at the FAU Aquatic Center. The Quakers defeated Florida Atlantic by a score of 179-99 and Brown by a count of 177-104.
Penn got out to a lightning-quick start, as the team of Dillon and Brendan McHugh, Rhoads Worster and Peter Amos combined for an easy win in the 200 Medley Relay, coming in at 1:34.37. The next event provided one of many Quaker highlights on the day, as the Red and Blue had the first five to the wall in the 1000 Freestyle. Cam Hood won the event with a time of 9:44.08, while Stephen Carroll (9:47.72) and Alex Elias (9:58.04) were behind him in second and third.
The McHugh brothers were busy throughout the day, as Dillon took home a title in the 100 Backstroke (52.22) and a second place finish in the 200 Backstroke (1:54.41), while Brendan turned in a typical performance with victories in the 100 Breaststroke (56.58) and 200 Breaststroke (2:06.38).
Jeff Cragg cruised to a win in the 1-meter diving competition as well, finishing 35 points clear of second place with a score of 301.45.
Next up for Penn is an important tri-meet on January 14, facing Yale and Dartmouth in Hanover, N.H. The men's meet follows the women's meet and is scheduled to begin at approximately 3 p.m.
