PHILADELPHIA - The men's swimming team will face its third Ivy League opponent of January when it travels to Providence, R.I. on Saturday and meets the Brown Bears, beginning at 12 p.m. from the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. Saturday's meeting between the Quakers and Bears marks the first time since the 2006 season that the two squads have squared off somewhere other than Florida, as the schools have typically competed against one another while on their respective winter training trips.

After nearly a month-and-a-half away from competition, Penn had a tough go of it last week. Returning to Sheerr Pool from their winter training, the Quakers fell to Dartmouth (161-139) and Yale (176-124) on Senior Day. Chris Swanson (1000 Freestyle) and Dillon McHugh (100 Freestyle) were the two individual event winners on the day for the Red and Blue. Swanson, Alex Porter and Rhoads Worster all added runner-up finishes on the day.

Brown enters the weekend after having just faced Harvard on Thursday night, falling to the Crimson, 207-90. This year's group of Bears is led by Thomas Glenn, who owns the best times in the Ivy League this season in the 100 Butterfly (47.49), 200 Butterfly (1:46.46) and 200 Freestyle (1:37.29). In addition, Jeff Strauser is one of the stronger sprint freestylers in the league and Cory Mayfield may challenge Swanson in the distance events. The Quakers have beaten the Bears (now 3-3 this season) every year since 2008.

Penn will not compete again until Feb. 1, when they travel to West Chester to face the Golden Rams at 5 p.m. The Quakers stay in the Philadelphia area again the next day, going to La Salle at 12 p.m. on Feb. 2.
