PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Penn men's swimming team sits in sixth place with 201 points after the first night of the Ivy League Championships. Harvard holds the overall lead with 467 points, while the Quakers find themselves ahead of Cornell (165) and Brown (117).

Penn got itself off to a successful start, establishing a new school record in the opening event of the Championships, the 200 Freestyle Relay. The team of John Germanis, Eric Schultz, Alex Porter and Dillon McHugh clocked a time of 1:20.46 to clip the previous record by more than a second and finish fourth overall in the race.

Another record fell almost immediately after. Competing in his first race at the Ivy League Championships, freshman Chris Swanson broke the Penn record, previously held by James Fee, with a time of 4:21.82 in the 500 Freestyle to finish third.

Junior Rhoads Worster and freshman Brendan Crystal finished near each other in the 'B' final of the 200 IM. Worster wrapped up in 12th place (1:48.45) while Crystal ended in 14th position (1:49.79). Porter was back in the pool for the 'B' final of the 50 Freestyle, coming in 16th (20.49).

The night ended with a sixth-place finish for the 400 Medley Relay team of McHugh, Kyle Yu, Worster and Porter. The four combined to finish the event in 3:15.56, just three-tenths of a second behind the all-time Penn mark.

Action from the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center gets underway tomorrow with prelims at 11 a.m. Finals will begin once again at 6 p.m. with swims in the 200 Medley Relay, 1000 Freestyle, 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, 800 Freestyle Relay and consolation finals of the 3-meter diving competition.
