PHILADELPHIA - Rising junior Jacques David was selected to the Australian Under-23 Lightweight team eariler this week. He will represent his country as well as the University of Pennsylvania lightweights at the World Rowing U-23 Championships in Linz, Austria, July 24-28.
“We are excited about the quality of the crews selected from our US-based Australian Under-23 athletes," said Jaime Fernandez, Rowing Australia’s Deputy High Performance Director responsible for Development. "We have a great mix of returning national team members and new athletes in this group.”
A native of Sydney, Australia, David will be training with his Australian teammates in New Hampshire for the next few weeks and is also slated to compete at the U.S. Nationals, June 26-28 in West Windsor, N.J.
David, who attended the Cranbrook School just outside of Sydney, was a member of Penn's varsity crew during the 2012-13 season. The Quakers reached the IRA regatta for the first time in three years when they finished seventh at EARC Sprints. With David in the four seat at the national championships, the Quakers won the petite final and finished seventh in the nation.
