PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men’s lightweight rowing team will compete in two races this weekend. On Saturday, the team will send two freshmen boats to participate in the Head of the Schuykill Regatta. Then on Sunday, a total of 10 boats overall will take part in four different races at the Princeton Chase.

The first regatta begins on Saturday at 8:15 a.m. when the Frosh/Novice 4 hit the waters. The other boat for the Quakers participating in the Head of the Schuykill Regatta is the Frosh/Novice 8 and their race will begin at 10 a.m.

The experienced freshmen eights will compete at the Princeton Chase on Sunday with their race is slated to start at 1 p.m. First though, the Red and Blue has four boats taking part in the Lightweight 8 race beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Lightweight 4 will follow the Freshmen 8 race at 1:30 p.m., which Penn has three boats entered into. Finally, the Quakers have a couple of pairs competing in the small boats races starting at 2:30 p.m.

Last year, Penn had a strong showing in both the Head of Schuykill Regatta and the Princeton Chase. At the Head of the Schuykill Regatta, the Quakers had one boat finishing fifth overall with a time of 14:27.04 and their second boat came in eighth at 14:58.29. In the Princeton Chase, the highest finish for the Red and Blue was an eighth-place finish by the pair of Brad Adams and Ray Adruszko. The Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 boats both finished 13th in their respective races.

Last weekend, the Quakers competed in the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass. The Lightweight 4 came in fourth among collegiate teams and sixth overall among the 22 boats with its time of 17:19.94. Then in the Lightweight 8 race, Penn came in eighth among collegiate teams and 10th overall among the 17 competitors with its time of 15:26.65.

A complete recap and results of both regattas will be available on PennAthletics.com shortly after the conclusion of the Princeton Chase.
