NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - In the final fall regatta of 2011 the University of Pennsylvania men's lightweights sent two boats to the Rutgers Fall Classic in New Brunswick, N.J. The Quakers finished fourth in the eights on Saturday.
Just two freshmen boats competed for the Quakers. Both were in the lightweight eights and posted similar times. The first group of Red and Blue rowers to cross the finish line did so in a time of 12:36.3. That was good enough for fourth place.
Right behind them, and less than 10 seconds later, the second boat of Quakers crossed the finish. They stopped the clock at 12:44.1.
Navy had the top two boats in the race. The Midshipmen had the winning time of 12:08.5 to top the other seven boats.
Next up for the Quakers is the cup season in 2012. Penn begins the spring campaign on March 31 when Delaware and Saint Joseph's take on the Red and Blue on the Schuylkill River.
