PHILADELPHIA - Saturday marks the final day of competition on the Schuylkill River for the 12 seniors on the University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight rowing team. The Quakers host Navy for the Callow Cup and then have a dual with M.I.T.

The Quakers take on Navy in the morning with an 8:30 a.m. start. The Callow Cup race will conclude the regatta with the Midshipmen at 9:30 a.m. Then in the afternoon, the Red and Blue will matchup with M.I.T., beginning at 3 p.m. Senior Day will conclude with the first varsity race at 3:40 p.m.

If you are unable to come out and support the Penn lightweights in person, you can listen to the Penn broadcast at (215) 399-2864 or http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/penn.portal.

This will be the 57th Callow Cup race dating back to 1955. Navy holds a slight edge in Cup wins during that time at 30-26, including each of the last 11 years. Penn's last victory over the Midshipmen was in 2000 on Lake Carnegie. That was the last of four straight Callow Cup wins for the Quakers which included their last victory on the Schuylkill River in 1998.

Last year, Penn posted a victory in the freshman race at the Callow Cup, but the Midshipmen won the cup race on the Severn River. The Midshipmen got off to a strong start, but the Quakers held closed water until about the 1,200-meter mark. On its home course, Navy opened up the lead down the stretch and won with a time of 5:46.9 to Penn's 5:54.0. The freshman won decisively for the Quakers. They gained an open-water lead early on and were never really threatened by the Midshipmen. Penn stopped the clock at 6:07.4 for an eight-second win over Navy.

Against M.I.T. in 2011, Penn won three of four races. The Quakers posted an open-water victory in the varsity race with a time of 5:36.9 and M.I.T. finished nine seconds later. The freshmen garnered their second win of the day with a time of 5:46.1 for a six-second victory and both Penn boats in the second varsity beat M.I.T., with times of 6:27.0 and 6:30.0.

Last week, in the varsity 8 Wood-Hammond cup race on Lake Carnegie, Georgetown -- a guest at the regatta -- led wire-to-wire and finished just 0.28 seconds off of Princeton's 14-year-old course record. The Hoyas finished in 5:38.7. Penn and Princeton were in a tight battle for the Wood-Hammond Cup for the first 1,250 meters. But it was the Tigers who had the final push on their home course to claime the cup with a time of 5:41.2. Penn finished in 5:49.4.

A full recap of the Callow Cup and M.I.T. dual races can be found at PennAthletics.com following the conclusion of the day's events.
