PHILADELPHIA - Heavyweight rower Grant Wilson was named the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Rowing Performer of the Year earlier this month, while lightweights Andrew McGrath and Hurst Nuckols also made the All-Area academic team.

Wilson served as team captain in 2011-12 and was a consistent member of the varsity eight boat that posted its best finish at the IRA Championships since 2001. He was also the recipient of Penn's George H. Frazier Award, which is given to a graduating student-athlete (male or female) with the highest GPA among the basketball, crew, track, soccer, baseball and football teams.

Nuckols, who was also named to the 2010 Academic All-Area and All-Ivy teams, spent the last three seasons with McGrath as part of the lightweight varsity eight boat. Since the two garnered varsity seats, the Quakers ranked as high as seventh in the nation and posted their best finish at EARC Sprints in half a decade. Both were sophomores in the varsity eight boat that broke a three-year abscence from the IRA Regatta and each were in the boat - McGrath served as the bow - that finished seventh nationally at the event.

Wilson was a Mechanical Engineering & Applied Mechanics major, with a Mathematics minor. He was an Academic All-Ivy and Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area selection last spring as a junior. Wilson was also a member of SAAC and a student-athlete tutor.

Nuckols and McGrath also graduated from the Ivy institution in May, and both were part of Penn's prestigious Management and Technology (M&T) program with a Mechanical Engineering & Applied Mechanics major. Nuckols had a marketing concentration with a minor in mathematics, while McGrath had a finance concentration.
