PHILADELPHIA - Saturday marks the opening of the 2012 Fall season for the University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight rowing team. The Quakers will send eight boats out on the Schuylkill River for the season-opening Navy Day Regatta in Philadelphia.
Penn will compete in four races on Saturday. The varsity four will start the day at 9:38 a.m., and will be followed by the
freshman race at 10:32 a.m. The varsity lightweight 8 event will start at 12:58 p.m., and then the day ends with the freshman fours at 1:06 p.m.
The Quakers will wear a pink racing shirt this weekend in honor of both the Jog for Jill Foundation and Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Last year, at the traditional season-opening Navy Day Regatta, the 2011 Quakers posted some early Saturday morning victories in the open 2 and the lightweight 4+. The junior varsity finished sixth, while the varsity placed fourth.
