PHILADELPHIA - The sprint football team has announced its schedule for the 2009 season. The Quakers will play seven games with the last five counting to their conference schedule including Mansfield - a new addition to the CSFL last season. Penn, which finished the 2008 season with a 5-2 record, will host four games at Franklin Field, while playing three games on the road.
As has become tradition, the sprint football season will kickoff with the annual Alumni Game at Franklin Field. This year's game between the current team and the alumni will be Saturday, September 12 at noon. More details on the weekend's festivities will be available at a later date.
The Red and Blue will open the 2009 regular season away at Cornell on September 18 or 19. The two teams split the season series last year, with each school winning on its home turf. Penn defeated the Big Red, 17-3, on opening day of 2008.
Penn's last game of the season, October 30 with Navy, will serve as senior night for the Quakers. The perfect game for the Red and Blue to avenge last year's 26-7 lost to the Midshipmen. Penn will then close out the season at Princeton on October 30.
