PHILADELPHIA - The #10 women's fencing team travels to NYU on Sunday to take part in the second annual U.S. Weapon Squad Championships. Last season, Penn was the overall champion of the event as foil and epee advanced to their respective finals, placing second, while sabre came in third.

The Weapon Squad Championships use an atypical scoring structure to 45 points rather than the system currently in place for most NCAA fencing competitions. Teams will be competing for titles in each individual weapon, as well as an overall team championship. Of the 19 teams set to be in attendance on Sunday, seven are ranked in the Top Ten nationally.

To repeat as champions again, the Quakers will no doubt need a strong performance from their foil team. Led by 41 wins from freshman Luona Wang and an overall winning percentage of .837, foil has gone 19-2 in Penn's 21 bouts this season. The duo of Gabby Foor and Amrit Bhinder has helped epee to a 12-9 mark while sabre has had the most struggles throughout the season, entering the weekend at just 10-11.

Sunday's competition, scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., will be the final competition for the Red and Blue before NCAA Regionals. The Quakers travel to Lafayette on March 10 to try their hand at qualifying for the NCAA Championships, held later on in March in Columbus, Ohio.
