Holleran Division Draw

PHILADELPHIA - Women's squash will send its top-six players to the CSA Individual championships this weekend at Amherst. Five players found themselves ranked in the top-32 and will compete for the national championship and All-American honors in the Ramsay Division, while one player will compete in the Holleran Division. This is the exact same qualifier allotments that were given to Penn last season when the Quakers had five players earn All-American status, which the best of any team in the country last season.

Rachael Goh enters the weekend as the ninth-seeded player in the draw. Goh, a junior, will be making her third straight appearance in the Ramsay Division. She earned first team All-American honors last season, advancing the quarterfinals. She is 9-3 overall this season, playing primarily at the second slot on the Penn ladder.

Her first round opponent will be Dartmouth's Corey Schafer. Schafer was ranked 25th in the individual rankings that came out yesterday and will enter the draw as the 24th seed. She played No. 1 for the Big Green this season, matching up with Nabilla Ariffin in both of the team's meetings this season. Ariffin defeated Schafer in three games both times. Goh's opening round match will be Fridat at 11:40 a.m. She will face either No. 8 Elizabeth Eyre (Princeton) or Yale's Katie Ballaine in her second match of the opening day.

Ariffin enters the weekend as the 12th-seeded player in the draw. This will also be her third time in as many years that she has qualified for the top-draw at the Individual championships. In each of her first two seasons, Ariffin has earned second-team All-American honors. She is 7-7 this season with the majority of her matches coming at No. 1.

Her first round opponent will be No. 23 Natasha Kingshott from Harvard. Kingshott played No. 6 at the Howe Cup for the national championship team and won her match at No. 5 against Stephanie Vogel in the regular season meeting between the two schools. That match will get underway 12:20 p.m. Friday. In her second match on Friday, Ariffin will either face No. 5 Julie Cerrullo from Princeton or Harvard's Jennifer Pelletier.

Pia Trikha enters the weekend as the 18th seed in the top-tier draw. This will be the second consecutive season that Trikha has qualified for the Ramsay Division. She earned second-team All-American honors last season, going 2-2 in the draw. This year, she is 10-3 overall, having played most of her matches at the No. 3 position on the ladder.

She looks to be in for a tightly contested opening round match against No. 17 Ashley Tidman of Trinity. Tidman played No. 3 for the Bantams at the Howe Cup and defeated Trikha in the opening round, but needed a tiebreak in the final game to pick up the victory over Penn's co-captain. Their match will begin at 11:40 a.m. Friday. She will have a second match against either No. 1 Amanda Sohby of Harvard or Yale's Gwendoline Tilghman Friday evening.

Yarden Odinak is seeded 22nd in the Ramsay Division draw, the exact spot she was ranked in the latest release. This will be the third straight season that Odinak has competed in the top division. She earned second-team All-American honors at the national championships last season. She is a team-best 12-2 overall, competing at primarily the No. 4 spot on the ladder this season.

In her first round match, she will go up against returning first-team All-American Pamela Chua of Stanford, currently ranked 11th in the nation. Chua played the No. 1 spot on the Cardinal ladder and was defeated by Goh during the regular season match between the two schools. Odinak's opening match will begin at 1 p.m. Her second match on Friday will be against either Katherine Giovinazzo (Princeton) or Danielle Letourneau (Cornell)

The fifth member of Penn's Ramsay Division entrants is sophomore Courtney Jones. Jones is making her first appearance in the top draw of the individual championships. Last year, Jones competed in the Holleran Division and captured the second round consolation championship, going 4-1 on the weekend. She was ranked 31st, but will enter the draw as the 29th seed. Jones went 10-3, competing mainly at No. 5, this season.

In her opening round match, she draws No. 4 Catalina Pelaez of Trinity. Pelaez won both her matches at No. 1 during the regular season and Howe Cup against Penn. Their match will hit the courts at 12:20 p.m. on Friday. In her second match on Friday, Jones will either go up against Alicia Rodriguez Acosta (Trinity) or Cecilia Cortes (Harvard).

Vogel will be Penn's lone representative in the Holleran Division. She was ranked 39th in the country in the latest rankings and will assume the No. 4 seed overall in this draw. She also competed in the Holleran Division during her freshman season at Penn. She has gone 10-3 this season, splitting time evenly between No. 5, No. 6, and No. 7., finishing at No. 6 during the Howe Cup.

With her seed, Vogel will receive a bye into the second round of the championship bracket and play just one match on Friday. In her second round match, she will face the winner of Chandler Lusardi (Amherst) and Ellie O'Neill (Williams). Lusardi is ranked 91st in the country and played No. 1 for Amherst, the 19th-ranked team nationally. O'Neill was downed by Trikha in three games during the regular season match with Williams at No. 3.
