AMHERST, Mass. - Junior
Dan Greenberg saw his Molloy Division run come to end just one match shy of the
ultimate finish line on Sunday, falling in the semifinals during his first match of
the morning. After he had run off three straight wins to get to this position, Greenberg won the first
game for the fourth consecutive match of his weekend, but would eventually fall
in four games.
In the first game, Greenberg took the early lead with an
11-9 win in the opening game. However, No. 3 Omar Sobhy (George Washington)
would come back in the second game with an 11-4 win, tying the match at
one-all. Sobhy then went up after the third game, winning 11-7 and he would then
replicate that score in the fourth to advance to the finals where he would eventually
lose to Vishrab Kotian (Trinity) in three games.
Despite the loss, Greenberg went 3-1 this weekend. He
finishes the season with 10 victories, which nearly doubles the amount that he
had in his first two seasons at Penn. This was also the second time in his
three seasons that Greenberg made it to the semifinals of the Molloy Division.
He also advanced to this round as a freshman, but did not compete in the
individual championships as a sophomore.
