PHILADELPHIA - An Elizabeth Hitti goal with just over five minutes remaining -- her second of the night -- provided the winning margin as the Penn field hockey team defeated La Salle, 4-3, Wednesday at the Explorers' Hank DeVincent Field.

With the win, Penn improved to 4-3 overall and snapped a three-game losing streak (as well as a two-game scoring drought). The Quakers have already matched their win total from all of last season. La Salle fell to 2-6 overall.

The game was a stark contrast to last year's 1-0, double-overtime affair at Franklin Field. On Wednesday evening, it took all of 42 seconds for the scoreboard to be lit up, as La Salle's Colleen Kempf scored off a long cross from Janel Paukovits.

Penn tied the score less than nine minutes later, as Emily Corcoran sent a long ball to Amelia Cohen and she beat La Salle keeper Lisa Shaffer to the far side.

La Salle needed just 2:06 to regain the lead, this time Maddy Tettelbach converting on a rebound, but Hitti knotted the score for the second time with her own unassisted effort just five minutes before halftime.

Cohen gave Penn its first lead of the night seven minutes into the second half, converting a pass from Sarah Hasson. However, less than five minutes later La Salles' Maddie Doub took a cross from Kempf and scored on an open goal to tie the score at 3-3.

Hitti put the hero's hat on, though, scoring unassisted for the second time in the game.

Carly Sokach was outstanding in the Penn goal, making seven second-half saves and 11 overall. Shaffer had six stops in the La Salle cage.

Penn will host Harvard on Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. on Franklin Field.
