PHILADELPHIA - The Penn men's golf team continues its fall season on Monday, when the Quakers host the Rehoboth Beach (Del.) Fall Invitational. This year's 36-hole event will once again be played at King's Creek Country Club, a par-71 course.
Penn has traditionally been among the stronger teams in the field. Last year, the Quakers took third place in a nine-team field, and the two years before that they were second. This year's field includes Goldey Beacom, La Salle, Lafayette, Maryland-Eastern Shore, McDaniel, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, Saint Francis (Pa.), St. Francis (N.Y.), and Wesley.
Penn will have a few new faces in the lineup Monday. Senior captain P.J. Fielding leads the lineup along with sophomores Tomas Agrest, Ben Cooley and Austin Powell. Freshman P.J. Collier rounds out the quintet. Two other players, Geoff Locher and Patrick O'Leary, will play the tournament as individuals.
"Qualifying was a hard-fought battle between Tomas and Patrick, and this week I'm going with the sophomore over the freshman," said head coach Bob Heintz. "I think a couple of rounds as an individual could give Patrick a chance to gain confidence. I'm hoping the maturity of Tomas will see him through to some good scores. Despite missing Max Marsico this week due to class commitments, we are optimistic about our chances to contend and bring this title home. Austin and P.J. are building confidence, and Collier could have a great day on this narrow and penal course, Kings Creek. Not to be forgotten, I'm hoping Ben can continue his solid play of last week when he tied for seventh in Rhode Island."
