Complete Race Results (pdf)

Bethlehem, Pa. -
The women's cross country team continued to show its improvements in leaps and bounds, finishing 16th out of 40 schools at the 39th annual running of the Paul Short Invitational on the campus of Lehigh University on Friday morning. Last year, Penn came in 30th out of 45 schools.

Leading the charge for the Quakers was senior co-captain Leslie Kovach, who missed last year's race due to injury. Kovach's time of 21:28 placed her 56th overall in the field of 360 competitors. Following her was Kersie Jhabvala, running in 66th with a time of 21:44.

Two freshmen were up next for the Red and Blue. Hannah Grossman (22:07) came in 100th overall, followed by Elyssa Gensib (22:30) in 132nd. The scoring for Penn was rounded out by senior Margaret Diacont, a product of nearby Nazareth, Pa., who finished 136th overall with her time of 22:32. Among the group that the Quakers finished ahead of were Delaware, Tennessee, Army, Maryland and Saint Joseph's, to name a few.

The team will have next weekend off from competition before returning to action for two races in two weeks' time. First, a select few will travel to the west suburbs to compete in the Haverford Invitational on October 11. Two days later, the full team will make the trip to Lafayette for the Leopard Invitational, beginning at 10 a.m. on October 13.
