Bethlehem, Pa. -
The men's cross country team cruised to the title of the Brown Race at the 39th annual Paul Short Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Quakers top five put together a total of only 47 points while second place Canisius was the closest of the 33 teams in the field with 167 points.

Penn's rookies gave the term freshman fifteen a new twist on Friday. Brendan Smith (25:18) was the top finisher for the team in the race in third place. He was followed by Brandon Clark (25:22) in fifth and Thomas Awad (25:31) in seventh. Together, the trio accumulated only 15 points for the Quakers.

Two seniors rounded out the scorers for Penn. Kevin Foy finished 15th overall with a time of 25:42 and George Dickson followed close behind in 17th at 25:48 over the 8K. With only 30 seconds separating Smith from Dickson, the Quakers also had the smallest spread in the field.

The team will have next weekend off from competition before returning to action for two races in two weeks' time. First, a select few will travel to the west suburbs to compete in the Haverford Invitational on October 11. Two days later, the full team will make the trip to Lafayette for the Leopard Invitational, beginning at 10 a.m. on October 13.
