LORTON, Va. - The University of Pennsylvania men's golf team finished second out of 13 teams at the CHAMPS/Patriot Intercollegiate, hosted Saturday and Sunday by George Mason at the par-71 Laurel Hill GC.

After shooting 297 and 291 on Saturday, the Quakers shot 285 as a team on Sunday, the second-best score among teams, which pushed them from fourth place to second with an overall score of 873. Missouri was the team champion by a distance, shooting 849, while Villanova shot 874 to finish a stroke behind Penn. Hofstra was fourth, three strokes behind the Wildcats.

Junior Max Marsico tied for fourth among the 81 golfers in the field. He shot 72-73 on Saturday, then carded a 67 to tie for low score on the day to finish the tournament at 212. Sophomore Austin Powell also had a strong Sunday and finished the tournament at 77-72-70--219 to tie for 17th, while senior captain P.J. Fielding (72-74-74--220) tied for 19th.

Ben Cooley (76-72-74--222) tied for 26th in the field, while freshman P.J. Collier (77-74-74--225) tied for 35th. Playing as individuals, Tomas Agrest (79-71-79--229) tied for 46th while senior Colin St. Maxens made his season debut and had the third-best score by a Penn player on Sunday. He finished the tournament at 78-82-73--233 to place 61st overall.

Missouri's Jace Long was the individual champion; he shot 73-69-67 to finish at four-under-par 209 which put him two strokes ahead of the runners-up.

Penn returns to action with the annual Big Five Championship event on Oct. 13-14.
