PHILADELPHIA - Two regattas this weekend will wrap up the 2012 Fall schedule for the University of Pennsylvania men's lightweight rowing team. On Saturday, the Quakers will once again participate in the Head of the Schuykill Regatta.
Then on Sunday, Penn heads across the Delaware River to compete on Lake Carnegie in the Princeton Chase.
On Saturday, the Quakers first hit the water at 10 a.m. in the freshman 8 race. The Red and Blue will also have a boat in the lightweight 8 race at 2:20 p.m. The following day at Princeton, the Quakers begin at 10:30 a.m. in the varsity 8 race, which is followed by the freshman 8 (1 p.m.), the fours (1:30 p.m.) and the pairs (2:30 p.m.).
Last year, with snow on the river banks in the last weekend in
October, the Quakers
found some success at the Head of the Schuylkill and the
Princeton Chase. At the Head of the Schuylkill, Penn placed 14th among 40 boats in the novice eights and posted a 12th-place showing in the novice fours. The following day, in the varsity eights, Penn's top boat earned a top-10 finish in the 27-boat race, while Penn's top boat in the fours finished in the middle of the pack with a 17th-place showing.
Last week, at the 48th annual edition of the Head of the Charles,
the Quakers were in two of the final races on the second day of
competition. The fours took the water first and posted a top-10 finish.
The Quakers finished in 18:24.91 to place ninth among the 16 boats. A
short while later, the Quakers finished 15th in the eights.
