Race Results (pdf)

Princeton, N.J. -
Without the services of senior leader Leslie Kovach on Saturday, the women's cross country team finished eighth at the 2012 Ivy League Heptagonal Cross Country Championships. Cornell won the race with 31 points, repeating as Ivy League champions. Racing on its home course, Princeton finished second with 91 points.

The Quakers showed vast improvement throughout this entire season and hoped to have that carry over into Saturday's race. When Kovach picked up an injury in training this week, Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Steve Dolan elected to hold her out with an eye on Penn's Regional race in two weeks as well as the upcoming indoor track & field season. In her absence, freshman Hannah Grossman led the Red and Blue, coming in 29th with a time of 21:26.0 in the 6K race. Another freshman getting her first taste of Heps, Elyssa Gensib, was the second Quaker to finish, closing out in 35th place in 21:43.5. The two rookies were the sixth and seventh freshmen across the line, respectively.

Three veterans were Penn's other three scorers on Saturday. Junior Kersie Jhabvala came in 37th, crossing the finish line in 21:46.1. Senior Margaret Diacont (49th, 22:05.0) and junior Chelsea Delaney (54th, 22:41.1) were the fourth and fifth Quaker finishers.

Penn returns to action in two weeks, taking part in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional at Penn State on Nov. 9. That race will get started at 11 a.m. from State College.
