Official Ivy League release

PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League has announced its All-Ivy women's soccer teams for the 2012 season, and the University of Pennsylvania is represented by four women. Seniors Erin Beck (midfield) and Alex Dayneka (defense) and junior forward Kerry Scalora all received first-team All-Ivy honors in a vote of the eight head coaches, while junior back Brianna Rano was named second-team All-Ivy.

This marks the second straight year that Penn has had three women earn first-team All-Ivy in the same season. Prior to last year, that had never happened in the program's history.

One of this year's team captains, Beck earns first-team All-Ivy recognition for the second straight year. She started all 16 matches in the middle of the park, finishing the season with three assists which was one shy of the team lead.

Dayneka was also a captain this year, and was one of the anchors behind a stalwart defense that allowed just 16 goals (0.98 goals-against average) and posted six shutouts. This is Dayneka's first time being honored with All-Ivy recognition.

Scalora led Penn in goals (4) and points (11), coming back to the lineup after suffering a season-ending knee injury midway through the 2011 season. The 2010 Ivy League and ECAC Rookie of the Year finished with three goals and an assist in Ivy play, all of them coming consecutively during the course of three matches.

Rano earns her first career All-Ivy honor after a stellar season at right back. In addition to helping the Quakers post the numbers listed above, offensive she scored a goal and led Penn with four assists.

Penn finished the 2012 season with a 9-6-1 record overall. In Ivy League play, the Quakers went into the final night of the season playing for a share of the Ivy League title, but fell to Princeton and instead finished 5-2 to place third behind the champion Tigers and second-place Dartmouth

Princeton senior Jen Hoy was the Ivy League Player of the Year, while Dartmouth freshman Corey Delaney was the Ivy League Rookie of the Year.
