Metcalf comes to the Quakers’ coaching staff by way of the
City 6 and Drexel.
"We are also excited to welcome Devon Metcalf to our
staff,” head coach Leslie King said. “She had a great career at Drexel and brings a lot of
insight into what makes a Division I athlete tick. Devon will be working
primarily with the outfielders and hitters."
Metcalf was a member of the Dragons’ softball program from
2008-12, where she played mainly third base and shortstop. There she made her
name with speed, ranking in the top three on her team in stolen bases all four
years, and leading the team her senior year. She was also named Colonial
Athletic Association Rookie of the Week in March of 2009.
Aside from playing, she also served as a coach on many
different occasions. Most recently, she took part in the University of
Pennsylvania Softball Camp where she assisted King with infield mechanics and
bunting. She also assisted with the Philadelphia Softball SuperClinic and the
Drexel University Skills Clinics. In addition, she was an assistant coach for
the Vienna Shamrocks 14 and under softball team, a local team near her hometown
of Manassas, Va.
"I'm very excited to have the opportunity to work with the
Penn softball program,” Metcalf said. “Not only is Penn a superb academic
school, but also boasts a great athletic program. The team made it to the Ivy
League Championship Series last year, and I am looking forward taking the next
step this upcoming season."
Metcalf graduated from Drexel in 2012 with a degree in
elementary education. She was a member of the Dean’s List and was also honored
as an NFCA Scholar-Athlete. She is originally from Manassas, Va.
