Ivy League Release
PHILADELPHIA - For the second times this season, Sam Engs has earned an weekly award for his exploits on the field, earning Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors in the final week of the season.
Engs factored in on two goals during Penn's 3-1 win over Harvard on Saturday night, netting the game-winner in the 54th minute before setting up the insurance goal to send Penn into the offseason on a positive note.
The goal was the second of the season for Engs, and came via a header as he concluded a sweet set piece by the Red and Blue. Travis Cantrell served up a ball across the box to an open Jonny Dolezal who quickly lobbed a pass back over the scrum to Engs' head for the game-winner.
11 minutes later, Engs showed a playmaking ability as he deftly slipped a pass through two defenders to a charging Cantrell who stepped into one to extend Penn's lead to two.
Earlier this season, Engs earned Philadelphia Soccer Six Rookie of the Week honors after scoring his first career goals just 3:33 into his debut during a 2-1 loss to Air Force.
