On a busy night at the Kenyon Aquatic Center, the women's swimming team all but clinched victory at the Total Performance Invitational with five wins in eight events, including a school-record performance from freshman Lauren Church. Penn has totaled 898.5 points through two days of competition, with Kenyon in second place at 624.5 points.

The night began with the 200 Freestyle Relay, where the Quakers placed both their 'A' and 'B' teams in the top three. The 'A' team of Shelby Fortin, Dayae Choi, Christina Hurley and Emily Baturka just edged out Kenyon's 'A' team to the wall, winning by .14 with a time of 1:34.89. Later on, Fortin would add victories in the 50 Freestyle and 200 Freestyle to her haul this weekend, setting a meet and pool record in the 200 at 1:48.43 to win by over three seconds.

Church made her mark on the evening in the 100 Backstroke, breaking a four-year old school record with a time of 55.14. Sara Coenen previously held the record at 55.21.

Penn's other winner on the evening was Megan Alexander in the 400 IM. Alexander just edged out teammate Melissa Parratto to the wall, clocking in at 4:27.67 to Parratto's 4:27.78. Katherine Ashenfelter made it a 1-2-3 finish for the Red and Blue, touching the wall in 4:29.23.

Other top finishers for Penn included Taylor Sneed in the 200 Butterfly (2:02.52) and Anne Maercklein in the 100 Breaststroke (1:06.10). Both Sneed and Maercklein finished third in their respective races.

Preliminaries resume tomorrow morning from the Kenyon Aquatic Center beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Total Performance Invitational will close out with championship and consolation finals tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m.
