PHILADELPHIA – Past
meets present on Friday as part of the annual Red vs. Blue Intrasquad meet for
Penn gymnastics. Not only will the meet serve as a chance for the team to get
into full uniform and compete against each other in-house to warm-up for the
upcoming season. The great success of the 2011-12 season will be celebrated following
the meet when head coach John Ceralde and his team accept their 2012 Ivy
Classic championship rings in front of Penn gymnastics alumnae and supporters.
This will be the first showing 2012-13 for the defending ECAC
and two-time Ivy Classic champions. It also gives Ceralde a chance to see what
his roster is shaping into before winter break. The Quakers will hit the mat
for warm ups at 4 p.m., with the meet set to begin at 6 p.m. Because of the atmosphere,
and the fact that this is an exhibition meet for Penn, spectators will have a
chance to get an informal close up of a collegiate gymnastics event.
Due to the ongoing construction of a new state-of-the-art
gym at Hutchinson Gymnasium – gymnastics regular home – the Red vs. Blue meet
will be in Levy Pavilion, the Quakers’ temporary practice facility. Penn’s one
home meet against Bridgeport will be in the Palestra on Feb. 17.
