PHILADELPHIA –
Penn men’s squash triumphed over Navy at the Ringe Squash Courts on Thursday,
bumping its record up over .500 for the first time this season. The No. 13
Quakers (3-2) topped the 16th ranked Midshipmen (18-3), 8-1, in their first
home match of the 2012-13 season.
Penn started off strong, taking three of the first four
matches, highlighted by an intense five-set win, 3-2, at No. 4 from junior John
Dudzik (2-3) over Hunter Beck (9-3) of Navy. In the second set of matches, it
was more of the same for the Red and Blue, as they took all five to seal their
third win of the season, 8-1.
Senior captain Danny Greenberg finished off Navy’s No. 1
Andrew McGuinness for the second time in their careers, 3-1, and is now 2-0
all-time against the Middie sophomore. Other highlights were sophomore Daniel
Judd, who remains the only perfect Quaker on the roster at 5-0 with his win at
No. 9 on Thursday, as well as all three freshmen. Rookies Augie Frank, Liam
Quinn, and Tyler Odell dominated their matches. Frank (2-3) had the last match
of the night, and swept his opponent, 3-0, despite a number of long points and Navy
lets. Quinn and Odell each earned their fourth victory on the year.
The Quakers take a break for the holidays before returning
to the Ringe Courts from Jan. 12-13 for their Ivy League opener against Harvard
and Dartmouth.
