BETHLEHEM, PA. - In the season-opening meet at Lehigh on Friday, the University of Pennsylvania women's track and field team posted six victories, highlighted by the fourth-best shot put in school history from Theresa Picciallo in her collegiate debut.

Picciallo and senior Charlotte Pope claimed the top two spots in the shot put. In her first meet as a collegian, Picciallo earned the victory with a toss of 13.75 meters (45 feet, 1 1/2 inches). That mark is fourth among Penn's all-time top 10 list and is the furthest toss for a Quaker since Shani Boston in 2007 (13.85m). Meanwhile, Pope was just one centimeter behind her personal best - which stands as fifth-best in school history. Pope's top toss landed at 13.11 meters (43-00.50 ft.).

Sophomore Annie Holland won the high jump as she matched her personal best. Of the 23 competitors, she was the only one to pass the bar at 1.70 meters (5-07 ft.). That matched her previous best, which stands as sixth-best in the school record book.

Penn also stood atop the podium in two other field events. Senior Jillian Hart won the pole vault. She opened the year at 3.55 meters (11-07.75). Freshman Eliana Yankelev was tops in the long jump. Her best leap measured 5.50 meters (18-00.50 ft.).

Junior Gabrielle Piper won the 60-meter hurdles and was the runner-up in the 60 meters. Piper topped a field of 33 runner in the hurdles with her winning time of 8.84 and was the runner-up in the 60 meters by one-hundreth of a second at 7.77.

Sophomore Shakele Seaton posted her first collegiate victory in the 500 meters. She was the runaway winner in her heat and won the event with a time of 1:18.88.

In the 1,000 meters, Arianna Tabatabaie (3:06.04) and Pauline Dabrowski (3:06.45) came in side-by-side to finish second and third, respectively. Dabrowksi was also the anchor for the winning 4x800-meter relay. She combined with Chelsea Delaney, Shannon McCarthy, who was third in the mile (5:14.63), and Stephanie Green to win in 9:44.17.

The Quakers are off through the holidays and will return to the track for the first meet of 2013 on Jan. 12 at the Armory in New York City.
