BETHLEHEM, PA. - Four Quakers posted victories as the University of Pennsylvania men's track and field team opened its 2012-13 campaign at the Lehigh Invitational Friday night inside Rauch Fieldhouse. Junior Jake Brenza won the shot put with the fourth-best toss in program history, while junior Maalik Reynolds, sophomore Tom Timmins and freshman Drew Magaha also won in addition to a pair of relays.

Brenza started the indoor season with a personal-best toss of 16.59 meters (54 feet, 5 1/4 inches). That mark was more than 1.5 meters better than any other toss on the night among the 36 competitors. It was also better than any throw by a Quaker over the last 16 years. The last to reach that mark was Chris Osentowski in 1996.

Reynolds, a four-time Heps champion, won the high jump with a season-opening jump of 2.10 meters (6-10.75 ft.). He was joined on the podium by freshman teammate Thomas Pitt, who was second in his collegiate debut. Pitt cleared 2.00 meters (6-06.75 ft.).

Timmins opened his second season in the Red and Blue stripes with a win in the 500 meters. He was tops among the 23-man field at 1:05.62. A short while later, freshman Drew Magaha won in his Penn debut. He claimed the title in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:32.74.

Among a field of 40, freshman Brandon Senior was the runner-up in the 60 meters at 7.13. Senior Tim Carey was second in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.33, while Connor Jaramillo (4:25.27) and Kirk Webb (4:27.20) finished second and third, respectively in the mile.

Jaramillo and Webb made up half of the winning 4x800-meter relay team, while Carey and Timmins ran two legs of the winning 4x400-meter relay. Webb was the anchor leg and also combined with Keaton Naff and Mato Bekelja to stop the clock oat 8:00.53. Timmins was also an anchor for the Quakers as Allante Keels and Tim Hamlett made up the other half of the 4x400 to win at 3:20.68.

The Quakers are off through the holidays and will return to the track for the first meet of 2013 on Jan. 12 at the Armory in New York City.
