Ronald McDonald House | Charge for a Cure

PHILADELPHIA - During the holiday season, the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team spent time at a local Ronald McDonald House which supports families of seriously ill children by creating a community of comfort and hope.

The Quakers spent several hours with the families at the Ronald McDonald House. The players and coaches helped serve breakfast and ate with the children and their familes, and then spent a few hours playing with the kids and talking with their parents.

The Quakers are also raising money this season through the third annual Charge for a Cure program. Money is raised with every charge the Quakers take during the 2012-13 season. In the program's first two years, 109 gracious donors joined the cause and helped the Quakers raise nearly $7,000. To join the team in Charge for a Cure, contact assistant coach Kara Cassidy at karacass@upenn.edu.

Combined with other initiatives, including the Pink Zone game and the 'Pack the House' Challenge, the Quakers have raised more than $12,000 over the past two seasons.

On the court, Penn has won six of its last eight gams and is set to take on Morgan State in a basketball doubleheader at the Palestra on Tuesday. The women tip at 5 p.m., and the Penn men take on Lafayette at 7:30 p.m. Fans with a ticket to the men's game can attend the women's game for free.
